Tonight, the Burton Bont Festival was able to make a donation to The Welsh Learning Disabilities Pool Team.

The team based in Swansea’s Friendship House, and have both female and male members with learning disabilities from the South Wales area.

One of the team, Rhys Lawrence is a much respected member of Pontrhydyfen RFC who has played at both junior level and senior levels and continues to play with the Pontrhydyfen Saxons touch rugby team in the village. Rhys loves sport and also finds time to play bowls for Bryn.

Supporting travel

Rhys’ sporting achievements is growing as he now represents Wales. Recently, his team played in Ireland and went on to become European champions at both singles and team levels.

Supporters and fund raisers work hard to raise money so that the team can travel to competitions and tournaments. Steven Partridge, the team’s organiser says that without this work and dedication, many members of the team would find it extremely difficult to travel.

Going to competitions provides new experiences for the players themselves and also gives valuable respite to carers and families.

In April, the team will be travelling to Gibraltar to play in the European Blackball Association Nations Cup.

We are delighted to to make a small contribution to the team and we wish them all the best, we all hope to see a few more trophies to the large collection this fantastic group of players have won.
